Yercaud – Generously Green, Undiscovered Land in Tamil Nadu

Yercaud is not a very famous hill station like other popular hill stations, but it is surely one of the blessed places in India. It is situated near Salem, Tamil Nadu. It got its name from the lake situated in the center. In Tamil “Yeri” means lake and “Kaadu” means forest, so it is called Yercaud. It is also known as the “Jewel of Shevaroy”, as it is located amongst the exotic range of the hills Shevaroy.

Some of the impressive spots of Yercaud:

Yercaud Lake: The first and the foremost tourist attraction that catches tourists is Yercaud Lake also known as Emerald Lake. The water pool is extremely fascinating, surrounded by gardens and woods. The lake has both oared boating and paddle boating facilities are available. The boating activity in the lake is so enthralling, that it rejuvenates one’s mind completely. Very strict safety measures are followed by the authorities.

Pagoda Point:¬†Another famous spot also known as pyramid point is Pagoda point. It is told that, tribal people have built this spot by placing four stones in a pyramid form. A Ram Temple has been made in between these stones. The best time to visit this place is in the morning or in the evening. One gets a complete view of the town Salem and also the view of a small village called kakambadi. The place has a cliff, which would be any climber’s delight.

Killiyur Water Falls:¬†It is a must see spot of the hill station and is approximately 3 kilometers away from Yercaud and also is at its best after immediately after monsoon. The water from the Yercaud Lake and from the Shevaroy hills falls deep into the Killiyur Valley at 300 feet. The view of this water fall is breath taking. A trekker can trek through the forest to this spot in an hour’s time.
